Untitled (UOC)

Co-Devised and Directed with Malaika Fernandes and Michayla Robertson-Pine through Wesleyan University’s Site Specific Performance Workshop, 2022

This piece, meant for groups of up to three audience members at a time, investigated the community and activism-oriented resources that once filled the University Organizing Center, a student-run building that fell into disarray following the COVID-19 pandemic. Using found notes, post-its, letters, records, and archives within the space, we devised a performance in which participants followed a visible paper trail throughout the building in order to come face-to-face firsthand with the forms of connection and gathering that once used the UOC as a home.

A map made to guide audience members through the space without external interference.
Artist-made notes written in-character as former occupants in the space guided audience members through a narrative of community and connection left behind in the wake of the pandemic.
Pre-existing graffiti within the set performance path of the space.
Notes created by the artists to emulate the active energy of the space.
The end of the performance -- viewing the closed-off top floor through the windows on the fire escape, formerly a place for dance rehearsals, club meetings, and political gatherings.
